Understanding your finance

Halal Car Finance Costs Explained

How much does halal car finance cost in the UK? The answer depends on the vehicle, your deposit, the finance agreement and the lender's assessment—not on one standard rate that applies to everyone.

This guide explains the amounts worth comparing before you commit. Sharia Car Finance Ltd is a UK credit broker, not a lender. Our current finance option uses an Ijara-based structure.

Start with the basics

What affects the cost of halal car finance?

Before comparing finance options, it's important to look beyond the monthly payment. Two arrangements can have different payment schedules and end-of-term terms even when the vehicle price is similar.

01

Vehicle Price

The price of the car is a starting point. The actual vehicle and supplying dealer must meet the finance provider's requirements.

02

Deposit

Any initial deposit changes the amount to be funded. Available deposit options depend on the product and lender.

03

Agreement Term

The length of the agreement influences the payment schedule. Check the total payable, not just whether the monthly amount feels manageable.

04

Rental Amounts

In an Ijara arrangement, the customer pays agreed rentals for using the vehicle. Your documentation should explain when each payment is due.

05

End-of-Term Terms

Understand what happens at the end of the lease and the contractual steps, if any, for ownership to transfer.

06

Personal Affordability

Your income, existing commitments and circumstances affect affordability assessment. A realistic vehicle budget matters.

Important: This page does not quote an Ijara rental rate or estimate your monthly payments. Figures are determined through the relevant finance provider's process and agreement.

How Ijara works

How are monthly rental payments determined?

Ijara is a lease-based arrangement rather than a conventional cash loan. The finance provider acquires the vehicle and makes it available for the customer's use under an agreement with specified rental obligations.

The amount and schedule of those rentals are set out in the actual offer and contract. They may reflect the vehicle, any initial payment, the agreement's length and the provider's pricing and underwriting approach. We won't quote a universal percentage or monthly figure because that could mislead customers.

What to ask before signing

How much is due at the start? What is the monthly rental? When does each payment fall due? Are the amounts fixed or subject to stated contractual conditions?

What an enquiry does—and doesn't—do

Registering your interest lets SCF discuss your budget and requirements. It isn't a finance offer or approval. Any personalised finance terms come through the relevant lender's process.

For the structure itself, see our Ijara car finance guide.

Look beyond the monthly figure

Monthly payment vs total amount payable

Affordability is important, but the monthly rental alone doesn't tell you the complete cost of an agreement. Review the full payment schedule and the obligations stated in the contract.

Item to checkWhy it matters
Initial paymentWhat you need to pay before or when the agreement begins.
Rental scheduleThe agreed payment amounts, frequency and duration.
Total paymentsThe overall amount you're contractually expected to pay over the term.
End-of-term obligationsAny contractual requirements connected with returning or acquiring the vehicle.
Early termination or settlementWhat the contract says if you wish to end the arrangement earlier than planned.
Late paymentsThe lender's stated process and any contractual consequences if a payment is missed.

Practical tip: Ask for the finance documents and read the payment schedule and end-of-term terms together. If anything is unclear, SCF can help you identify the questions to raise before proceeding.

Understand the full arrangement

Does ownership transfer at the end?

In Ijara, the finance provider ordinarily owns the vehicle during the rental period. Some Ijara-based products include a separately documented route for ownership to transfer. The precise legal steps and any relevant end-of-term conditions depend on the agreement.

Do not assume a car automatically becomes yours simply because you've made the final rental payment. Read the actual contractual documents and ask how ownership transfer is carried out under the product offered.

Frequently asked questions

Halal Car Finance Costs FAQs

Is halal car finance more expensive than conventional finance?

There isn't one reliable answer for every agreement. The products use different structures and terms. Compare the full payment schedule, total payable and contractual obligations using actual offers, rather than relying on a headline rate alone.

Does halal car finance involve monthly payments?

Yes, Ijara vehicle finance normally involves agreed rental payments under a lease. The payment frequency and amounts will be specified in the relevant agreement.

How much deposit do I need for Ijara car finance?

Deposit requirements depend on the finance provider, product and your circumstances. SCF won't advertise a universal minimum without confirmed lender criteria.

Can I get a monthly payment estimate from SCF?

Our team can discuss the vehicle and budget you have in mind and explain the steps towards obtaining actual finance terms. We won't present an invented monthly rental as a lender quotation.

Is a longer agreement always cheaper?

Not necessarily. A longer term may change the monthly payment but does not guarantee a lower total cost. Review all payments over the whole agreement.

Do I pay SCF a broker or arrangement fee?

No. Sharia Car Finance does not charge customers a broker fee for arranging finance.

What happens if I want to end the agreement early?

The answer depends on the finance agreement. Review its early termination or settlement terms, and ask for an explanation of the process before committing.

Are Ijara and Murabaha costs calculated in the same way?

No. Ijara is lease-based and uses rentals; Murabaha is a cost-plus sale with an agreed selling price. We currently help arrange Ijara-based finance, not Murabaha finance. Read our structure comparison for more detail.
