Can I Get Halal Car Finance with Bad Credit?

Worried about your credit history? You can still start a conversation about your finance options.

Having a low credit score, missed payments or previous financial difficulties does not mean you cannot ask about halal car finance. Whether finance is available depends on the individual lender's credit and affordability assessment, as well as your current circumstances.

Sharia Car Finance is a UK credit broker. We currently offer access to an Ijara-based vehicle finance option, and we're working to broaden our lender partnerships. That does not mean every credit history can be accepted today.

Start With The Facts

Does Bad Credit Mean Automatic Rejection?

Not necessarily across the wider finance market. Different providers may take different approaches to credit history, affordability, employment and the vehicle being financed. However, some lenders have restrictive credit policies, and we cannot guarantee that a suitable option is available through SCF at present.

It's worth separating your credit score from your complete financial position. Lenders can consider information beyond a headline score, and the decision is always theirs.

If you're concerned, you can register your interest and tell our team a little about your circumstances. We'll explain whether there is an appropriate next step with the options currently available.

Understanding An Application

What Might a Finance Provider Look At?

Each lender has its own policies. These are common areas that may be considered, not a statement of the acceptance criteria for any particular SCF lender.

01 • Credit history

Previous Payment Behaviour

Missed payments, defaults, arrangements with creditors or other credit events may affect an assessment. Their importance depends on the lender and the wider circumstances.

02 • Affordability

Income and Outgoings

Lenders consider whether the payments are affordable alongside existing commitments and everyday living costs. An affordable budget matters as much as the vehicle you prefer.

03 • Circumstances

Employment and Stability

Your type of income and how it can be evidenced may be relevant. Requirements vary, and some finance providers may not support certain employment situations.

04 • The vehicle

Car and Dealer Suitability

Vehicle age, mileage, price and dealership requirements can also matter. Not every car or seller will meet the conditions of an available finance product.

We deliberately do not publish a minimum credit score or income figure here: we cannot apply one threshold across current and potential future lenders.
A Useful First Step

What Is a Soft Credit Search?

A soft credit search allows an initial review of credit information without affecting your credit score. Soft searches are not visible to other lenders in the same way as hard application searches.

Where available and appropriate, SCF can explain the initial soft-search stage before a formal finance application. Registering interest on our website is not itself a finance approval or a guarantee that a search will be undertaken.

If you choose to proceed to a formal lender application, further verification, affordability checks and a hard credit search may be required. We'll explain the relevant stages.

Our Growing Lender Panel

Why Your Options May Change Over Time

Different finance providers can serve different customer circumstances. As a broker, SCF aims to work with additional Sharia-compliant finance partners so we can help a wider range of customers over time.

Today, we can only introduce customers to finance products that are actually available through our current arrangements. Future lender partnerships, their launch dates and their acceptance criteria are not guaranteed.

If we cannot identify an appropriate option now, it doesn't mean you should assume every halal finance provider will reach the same decision. You can ask our team about the position at the time of your enquiry.

How To Get Started

Three Simple Next Steps

01

Register Your Interest

Tell us your preferred vehicle, budget and basic circumstances. This is an enquiry, not a finance approval.

02

Speak With Our Team

We can explain the product currently available and whether initial eligibility and credit checks are appropriate for your circumstances.

03

Understand The Outcome

If there's a suitable route forward, we'll explain the lender's next steps. If there isn't, we'll be clear rather than encourage an unsuitable application.

Frequently Asked Questions

Bad Credit & Halal Finance FAQs

Can I get halal car finance with a low credit score?
You can enquire, but an offer depends on the criteria and assessment of an available finance provider. SCF cannot guarantee finance for a low credit score or any particular credit history.
Will a soft credit search lower my score?
No. An initial soft credit search does not affect your credit score. A formal lender application may involve a hard search, which can have an impact.
I've missed payments before. Is applying pointless?
Not necessarily. The significance of previous missed payments depends on the lender's policies and your circumstances. Our team can explain whether there is an appropriate next step with the finance options currently available.
Can I apply after a default or CCJ?
You can register an enquiry, but defaults and county court judgments can materially affect lender decisions. We cannot promise approval, and some current products may not be suitable.
Will you have more options when new lenders join?
We are developing additional lender partnerships with the aim of broadening the options we can introduce. Availability, timing and eligibility will depend on each lender; we cannot promise that a new partner will accept any particular application.
Do I need to choose a car before contacting SCF?
No. You can discuss your finance needs first. We also offer free vehicle sourcing to help customers look for suitable cars through UK dealers.
Is the finance offered through SCF interest-free?
Our currently available option is structured as Ijara, an Islamic lease-based finance arrangement designed to avoid prohibited interest (Riba). Lease payments still have a cost, and customers should review the specific contractual terms. Learn about Ijara here.
Does SCF charge customers a broker fee?
No. Sharia Car Finance does not charge customers a broker fee for arranging their finance.
